GDCFL Playoffs

The GDCFL has a 16 team playoff system to crown a National Champion. The conference championship game winner of each of our 10 conferences has an automatic bid to the playoffs. The remaining 6 spots will be filled by the 6 teams with the highest GDCS ratings who do not have an automatic bid. The following 8 Bowl sites are used to play the first round of the playoffs in Week 18 of the season:

Humanitarian Bowl, Boise ID, Bronco Stadium
New Mexico Bowl, Albuquerque NM, University Stadium
Motor City Bowl, Detroit MI, Ford Field
Liberty Bowl, Memphis TN, Liberty Bowl
Fiesta Bowl, Phoenix AZ, University of Phoenix Stadium
Sugar Bowl, New Orleans LA, Louisiana Superdome
Orange Bowl, Miami, Dolphin Stadium
Rose Bowl, Pasadena CA, Rose Bowl

For the second round of the playoffs (8 teams, 4 sites, Week 19), the Fiesta, Sugar, Orange, and Rose Bowls sites are used again. For the third round of the playoffs (4 teams, 2 sites, Week 20) and the Championship game (2 teams, 1 site, Week 21), three of the four of the Fiesta, Sugar, Orange, and Rose Bowls are again used and they are automatically rotated each year.

GDCFL Bowls

The following 27 Bowls are played in addition to the GDCFL playoff system. Bowl tie-ins are normally maintained, however when a bowl selects its teams, it may pick a higher rated team outside the bowl tie-in if one is available. So if a top 25 team is available and it is a down year for the SEC and the #3 available SEC team (outside the playoffs) is not in the top 25, then the Cotton Bowl can take the top 25 team, etc.
